225,000€ for the conservation of snow leopards

Species protection | 23 October 2024

Snow leopard

Today is World Snow Leopard Day: a day to draw attention to the protection of this majestic big cat. Dresden Zoo has been supporting the Snow Leopard Trust (SLT), which is dedicated to the conservation of snow leopards in Asia, for over 20 years. In total, we have been able to support the organisation with over 225,000 euros. This year alone, we were able to provide 35,000 euros for the work of the SLT, thanks to the income from our conservation euro. Last week, Marissa Niranjan, Deputy Director of the SLT, delivered a presentation in our auditorium on exactly what the organisation does with the money. During her visit, we not only discussed the work of the project, but also future challenges.

In addition to the Snow Leopard Trust, we support over 15 other organisations and associations dedicated to nature and species conservation. In total, we were able to donate almost 300,000 euros to global species conservation this year. This not only highlights the importance of this area for the zoo, but also emphasises the support of our visitors, without whom this form of species conservation work would not be possible.
